Coastal Engineering
Coastal areas and inland lake shorelines are valuable areas that forge strong connections between people and water. An understanding of the complex processes that shape shorelines is essential to the success of coastal engineering projects. FreshWater's expertise in coastal processes helps landowners and municipalities create resilient shorelines.

Project Highlights

Lakefront Preservation Group Proposed Revetment Evaluation
FreshWater performed a preliminary coastal evaluation of a proposed riprap revetment outside Bridgman, Michigan. FreshWater reviewed scientific literature and evaluated potential morphological impacts of a large revetment. The research gave insights into how the revetment would slow erosion of the shoreline. However, revetments also disrupt the natural sediment transport processes, resulting in increased downdrift dune and beach erosion.
